John Edward Roldao

JUNE 24, 1922 - OCTOBER 3, 2010

RESIDENT OF SAN LEANDRO

John Edward Roldao passed away on Sunday after a valiant battle with cancer. He touched all who knew him with his generous spirit and great sense of humor. John was born in Oakland, California and graduated from Oakland Technical High School. After serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII (in both the European and Asian theaters), John enjoyed a 30 year career with Southern Pacific Railroad as a car inspector. After retiring in 1983, John enjoyed spending time with his family, reading and doing crossword puzzles. An avid Oakland A's fan, he attended several hundred games and was a member of the A's Booster Club for many years.

John is survived by his daughter Carol Chilson of Fairfield and son Michael Roldao of San Leandro; son-in-law John Chilson of Fairfield and Lynne Roldao of San Leandro; grandchildren Theresa Lisenby of Fairfield, Julie Rickman of Lewisville, TX, Keith Chilson of Fairfield and April Chilson of Concord; and great grandchildren Alyssa Rickman, Christopher Lisenby and Anthony Lisenby. He is also survived by his brother William Cabral of Manteca, as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins. He is pleased to be rejoining Bernice, his wife of 56 years at the time of her passing in 2006.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thursday, October 7, 2010 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and Funeral Service on Friday, October 8, 2010 at 10:00am at Holy Angels Funeral & Cremation Center, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward, CA. Burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 26320 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA.

Since John was a donor to many charitable organizations, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to your own preferred charity.
